The Dorid was once considered as the saver of the business of its mother company, boosted the life of Android, and was initially tagged as the anti iPhone. Two years after, the phone using a name licensed by Lucasfilm, the Motorola Droid is struggling in a market where it can only hang onto its QWERTY appeal and the brand equity.Hardware
The new Motorola Droid does not have the lip anymore which gives you a clue that there is a keyboard tucked somewhere. The new design makes use of an uninterrupted front and odd corners seen before with their Droid RAZR. The company is taking a break from their traditional thin phone come and get it theme but they might have missed some things that will lure the consumers in. It has some good points though.
The phone is a bit large at 5×2.65×0.5 inches but you might be surprised that it is quite comfortable to hold. It is also 0.5 ounce heavier than its older sibling the Droid 3. The phone now is also sans the familiar polished frame and rubber back cover but is now encased by a plastic body. It feels solid but plastic is still plastic.
It has a 8 megapixel camera on the back and a 1.3MP partner in front. Pretty much every spaces is occupied with HDMI and USB sockets, volume rocker, headphone jack, and power button that you can easily trace on the sides.
On the plus side, the keyboard is where the money went on the design. The QWERTY keyboard will give consumers an improved experience when they use the keyboard. The keyboard of the Droid 4 can most likely be classified as one of the best in the market.
Software
This phone runs on Gingerbread 2.3.6 and most likely will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich soon. If you are familiar with the environment, the platform gives you the consistent experience you can expect. The real estate is still the same where you can sort the apps depending on your preference or display the whole collection. Expect a ton of bloatware though. Motorola has also included Smart Actions which basically learns the user’s habits and automatically adjust to these so the battery can be optimally used.
Conclusion
The phone is not for you if you are after the looks and the flashiness. It is more for the power users who can make most of the flagship keyboard and access to the LTE networks. It is pretty cheap too at $200 with contract .
