January 4th, 2009SmartphonesYou must have heard, at one time or the other, about someone boasting about his or her latest smartphone. On close inspection you found out that it was just another mobile. It seems that you have not checked out the mobile thoroughly. If you had done so, you would have discovered that it has many features that are found in PC’s rather than in phones. A cell phone that has advanced features that are generally found on PC’s rather than on the mobile are termed as smartphones. At the moment, there is no special criterion that determines whether a cell phone is a smartphone.
At times there are phones that have inbuilt operating systems that are found on personal computers and these are termed as smartphones. Then there are cell phones that have advanced capabilities like sending and receiving email along with browsing capabilities that are also recognized as smartphones. However, just browsing abilities does not make a cell phone a smart phone, since most cell phones nowadays have this feature inbuilt, even the low range ones. Quite a number of the modern day cell phones come equipped with many facilities like having an inbuilt spreadsheet and data processing abilities and these cell phones are termed as smartphones. It is the ability of the cell phone, to perform tasks that are beyond the reach of the normal cell phones, which distinguishes them as smartphones.

If pre-release looks are anything to go by, then the Samsung SGH-i740 seems to be a stunner. This mobile is raising the bar ever so high and taking standards to newer heights. You will love the looks of this beauty GSM Quad band phone that is capable of global roaming. Weighing a tad high at 126 grams, this 109 x 59 x 14 mm phone runs on a Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery with talktime up to 11 hours and stand by time up to 26 days (it would be a shame to write that in hours). The 65,536 colors TFT display has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and the touchscreen had got handwriting recognition capabilities… Wow!When other phones are pushing up the camera resolution to 5 megapixels and above, Samsung disappoints on this one with just 3 megapixels. The video features auto focus, ISO control, digital zoom, multi shot capabilities and panorama view. A flash is included for shooting in dim light. The phone comes inbuilt with 100 MB memory, more than sufficient for most tasks and for additional storage there is a microSD memory slot. This beauty runs on Windows Mobile Professional 6.1.
